Elsa Patton Plastic Surgery

We need to cut Elsa Patton, of Real Housewives of Miami fame, a little bit of slack.  She is in her mid 70′s after all, and plastic surgery or not, it is hard to keep it together that late into life.

Having said that, I do feel that the following photos before and after plastic surgery will show that she would have been better off, like most women, to let nature take its course.  The plastic surgery has done nothing but further her decline.

Did Fergie Have Plastic Surgery?

Fergie started her career as Stacy Ann Ferguson in the kids show Kids Incorporated.  For anyone that grew up in the 80′s, you were probably very familiar with this show, but little did you know that one of the stars would go on to become an international pop star.

The big question though is did she have some work done once she became rich and famous?

I think we can see in this first picture that she may have had a nose job at some point.  In the younger picture, the nose looks a lot wider, and I don’t think the progression that you see in the second picture could be considered the natural act of aging and becoming a woman.

Then, here you will see the effects of the boob job that Fergie may or may not have had performed.  I think this is one heck of a wonderbra that she is wearing if it was not cosmetically enhanced breasts.

Did Nicki Minaj have plastic surgery?

Nicki Minaj burst onto the scene a few years back.  Known for her clever rhymes and clear enunciation, she also has become known for her attractiveness and body.  Photos have surfaced of Nicki Minaj before she became a celebrity.  She still seems to have the same pretty face, but you may notice one feature that has grown substantially larger since her days as a struggling artist.

Take a look at the following photo and see if you can tell what has changed.

Did Jwoww Have Plastic Surgery?

The rumor is that Jwoww, from MTV’s popular show Jersey Shore, has had some work done between the time the show was first aired and now in their 5th season.   Jennifer Farley, also known as Jwoww, is only 25 years old, so that would have put her at about 22 for the first season.  It is reasonable to expect that someone could change remarkably between 22 and 25 years old.  Some women still have a lot of baby fat.  Maybe she began working out more heavily once she became a huge national star.

However, the attached picture does indicate that there may be more than just natural aging going again.

Laser Lipo Houston

Laser liposuction is a popular procedure in Houston and around the country at this time. In the past, lipo required that a patient be put under with a general anesthesia. Being put under is always a risky proposition. With laser lipo, a localized anesthesia is used. The patient is awake the entire procedure. There is also less recovery time associated with laser lipo as the fat cells are liquefied before being removed. This creates less damage to the body and lessens the presence of bruising.

What can you expect from a session of laser lipo?
The procedure should last anywhere from one to four hours. You should be able to go back to work within a few days after having the procedure. Results are typically visible sooner than would be the case with traditional liposuction.

Laser lipo in Houston can generally cost anywhere from $1,500 up to $10,000 depending on howmany areas of the body are being worked on. If multiple areas are getting the treatment, than a reduced price per area may be seen. Keep in mind that additional charges for anesthesia and facility fee may also apply.

Saif Ali Khan Hair Transplant

Saif Ali Khan Hair Transplant

Saif Ali Khan is a little un”Saif” on his hair front. When his movie “Love Aaj Kal” was released there was news that the actor had gone through botox to look young with the young actress Deepika Padukone. Also he is dating a much younger and beautiful actress, Kareena Kapoor and is even acting opposite the younger lot so he needs to maintain his hair.

The actor has now reportedly gone for another cosmetic treatment, to enhance his look for his next home production, ‘Agent Vinod’, with his girl friend Kareena Kapoor.

Medical Tourism

All You Need to Know About Medical Tourism

There has been a lot of talk recently in Houston about medical tourism. This industry has grown
from a small cottage industry into one of the largest growing sectors of the medical field.
Cosmetic surgery patients are one of the largest groups to take advantage of medical tourism
opportunities.

We have talked here at Plastic Surgery in Houston before about some of the

Most Popular Medical Tourism Destinations

Take a look at the following link to get an idea of how much one could save through medical tourism.

Surgery Price Comparion for Different Countries

In 2007, Americans spent over $13 billion on cosmetic surgery. Not all of that was in the United States. With the globalization
of the workforce in the past few decades, this has led to many first and second generation Americans working in the United States.
Going to a foreign country for a lot of Americans could mean going home to see relatives. Also, travel costs have dropped so much
with global transportation being very affordable. This has left other countries fighting over where Americans will go overseas for
their cosmetic surgery. This increased competition has led to the improvement in the hospitals and services in these foreign countries.

What do we know about medical tourism?

  • Not really a market for seniors
  • Centers around one-time elective procedures
  • Typically takes 5-6 days
  • Big winners are patient’s family(who get to travel)
  • Largely uncovered by insurance
  • Forecast 35% annual growth

This 35% growth could have 1.6 million Americans going abroad for medical procedures by 2012. The numbers have held steady for the past few
years, but a lot of that can be attributed to the economy. There were 750,000 medical tourists in 2007, 540,000 in 2008 and 648,000 in 2009.
I would expect the numbers to keep climbing as we slip out of this recession over the next few years.

What questions do we need to ask?

  • What is the surgeon’s training?
  • Is the surgeon certified?
  • Does health insurance cover it?
  • What about aftercare?
  • What about complications?
  • Do they speak English fluently?
  • Do they have any references?
  • Are you speaking directly with surgeon?(not agent)

As said earlier, most insurance plans do not cover these elective surgeries to begin with, much less an elective surgery in a foreign country.
There are some pilot programs in place that are experimenting with coverage for surgeries done in foregin countries. Medical tourism may get
a shot in the arm once this new health plan passes into law.

The most important piece of information I can give you is to really do your research before you make up your mind about medical tourism.
There are a few places to start online to help you along in your journey towards educating yourself about the process.

Joint Commission International – Have certified 200+ facilities in 30 countries.
Planet Hospital – Respected agency that checks out destinations beforehand
ISAPS.org – International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery
Patients without Borders – Create books with information about medical tourism
Medical Tourism Association – Dozens of members all over the world

Good luck and be safe in your journeys.

Burt Reynolds Wind Tunnel Face

Burt Reynolds was once voted the sexiest man alive.  He is known for his centerfold layout in Cosmopolitan magazine.  He was a heartthrob of the 70′s and 80′s to women across the world.  Father time never loses a race though.  Burt has tried to prolong the race as much as he humanly and financially can.  He may have made some headway with some his earlier plastic surgery procedures, but now he has gotten to the point to where he is doing more damage than good.  As you can see in the photos below, the new look is just not a good one for Burt Reynolds.  The wrinkles are still there.  They are just flattened out as though they have been run over by a steamroller.  They are also now longer than they would have been as the skin has been stretched back to his hairline.  He really doesn’t look too bad for 75 years old if you think about it.  He probably would have been better off just letting nature take its course and age gracefully.

Facelift

Facelift

In the traditional facelift, an incision is made in front of the ear extending up into the hairline. The incision curves around the bottom of the ear and then behind it, usually ending near the hairline on the back of the neck. After the skin incision is made, the skin is separated from the deeper tissues with a scalpel or scissors (also called undermining) over the cheeks and neck. At this point, the deeper tissues (SMAS, the fascial suspension system of the face) can be tightened with sutures, with or without removing some of the excess deeper tissues. The skin is then redraped, and the amount of excess skin to be removed is determined by the surgeon’s judgement and experience. The excess skin is then removed, and the skin incisions are closed with sutures and staples.

How much is a facelift?

Facelift surgery can cost from several thousand on up to and exceeding $10,000 depending on the amount of work that the patient needs done.  The surgeon’s fee is the biggest part of the pie.  This will include the consultation visits beforehand as well as the follow-up.  The facility fee will be included in the cost.  Anesthesia is needed to perform this procedure, so that will also play a role in the final cost.  Medication will be needed to control infection and pain after the surgery is completed.  There could be other miscellaneous costs involved depending on your specific situation.  Be sure to ask about all of this upfront so that there are no surprises.

Is a Facelift Painful?

Facelift surgery involves a minimal amount of pain surprisingly considering the area of the body that is being worked on.  You should expect some pressure on the sides of your face from the swelling after the operation.  There could also be some tenderness in certain areas  of the face after the facelift procedure is complete.  The swelling and bruising that will more than likely occur could be aesthetically displeasing, but the pain should not be a concern.

Is a Facelift Safe?

Facelift surgery is typically very safe as far as cosmetic surgery procedures go.  The usual bruising and swelling and tenderness will be present, but there is very little chance of any more serious complications.  There is a chance for infection, loss of muscle function, loss of hair around the incision, unevenness in the face as well as loss of skin from tissue death.  These are very infrequent.  It was once thought that the elderly had greater risk of complications with a facelift procedure, but the Cleveland Clinic recently did a study that disproved that notion.  Their study can be found here.
